Portraits of Tenuta Carretta: Monica Anselmo

Reading time in

A Langhe native, born and raised in Serralunga d’Alba, Monica Anselma has been part of the Italian sales team at Tenuta Carretta for three years.

Monica, how did you start your journey in the wine world, and how did you end up here?

I was born and raised in the Langhe, where wine and the land are in our DNA. I’ve always been around vineyards and harvests, thanks to my parents and grandparents, who worked in agriculture. After working in other fields for years, I felt the need for a change and to take on a new challenge. It was one of those times when you really ask yourself what you want – so I took a leap and applied for a position at Tenuta Carretta, which landed me in Roero. For the past three years, I’ve been working in the Italian sales office, managing orders and keeping in touch with agents and clients.

What do you find most fascinating about your work at Tenuta Carretta?

Definitely the interaction with people. It’s something I’ve always loved and sought out, even though managing relationships can be challenging at times! At Tenuta Carretta, I get to meet lots of people and take on new challenges. Also, since my office is on the ground floor, I often welcome visitors and share moments with them too.

I feel privileged to do a job that fulfills me within such a dynamic and close-knit team.

What was your first impression of Tenuta Carretta? What made you stay?

From the very first interview, I was struck by the oasis this place is, surrounded by vineyards and steeped in history. Coming here is always a pleasure, and being surrounded by such beauty is so rewarding!

What made me stay is the genuine commitment of the whole team – especially the owners – to continually improve. There is care, attention to detail, a thoughtful approach to setting goals, and patience in achieving them.

And now for the question we ask everyone in this section: is there a Tenuta Carretta wine that you particularly love?

It’s summer, so I’ll go with Campofranco Langhe DOC Riesling, which is perfect for this season with its intense, fresh aromas and minerality. It’s a unique challenge for Tenuta Carretta – the grapes come from vineyards at 700 meters altitude in Cissone, in the Alta Langa. The 2021 vintage ranked first in Piedmont and third in Italy at the Naturno National Riesling Competition.

Among the reds, I’ll pick a less traditional choice – not Barolo or Barbaresco, but Tavoleto Nebbiolo d’Alba Superiore – velvety, harmonious, and very elegant. It pairs beautifully with pasta dishes and meats.

After all, water has become a precious resource, so let’s save it by drinking good wine!
