Roero Arneis DOCG Cayega will be the star of the first Sunday in September. In the middle of the harvest, a day in the vineyards for everyone.

The 2020 edition of Casa Cayega, Sunday 6 September, promises to be an informal and fun event in which, through art, gastronomy and music, we will pay homage to one of the most iconic wines of the Tanaro left: Roero Arneis Docg Cayega.

The program of the third edition of the event, which will take place mainly outdoors, among the grassy vineyards in the middle of the harvest campaign and in the internal courtyard of Tenuta Carretta, a historic property in the Roero hills, which boasts over 550 years of history.

Many experiences, always in safety

To make participation in Casa Cayega 2020 absolutely safe and respectful of anti Covid-19 health protocols, Tenuta Carretta invites you to book your presence at the main activities of the day: the 4 thematic tastings, the winemaker’s harvest experience for a day, the starred picnic to be enjoyed among the vineyards, lunch based on fish at the convivale La Via del Sale tavern. Visits to the cellar and tastings

Guided tours of the cellar (free) are scheduled at 10.30, 12.00, 15.00, 16.30. Each will end with a thematic tasting (for a fee) lasting 45 minutes. At 11.00 it will be possible to discover the pink side of Piedmont, at 12.30 the whites of Tenuta Carretta and Malgrà will be tasted, at 15.30 it will be the time of the Summer Wines, at 17.00 Nebbiolando is scheduled, or an excursus through different variations of Nebbiolo. On the website www.tenutacarretta.it all the details of the wines offered in each individual thematic tasting (max. 20 seats per session).

Experiences in the vineyard

Anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the green scents of the vineyards can experience the thrill of the harvest by signing up for a day at Vignaiolo or booking a basket for a starred picnic prepared by chef Flavio Costa (1 Michelin star) to be consumed in the stations set up between the rows along Grape’s Road, which hugs the hills around the estate in a ring.

Gourmet sandwiches (with possible vegetarian variants), hazelnut cakes, natural fruit juices and, of course, the Roero Arneis Docg Cayega will fill the basket, which must be booked by 19.00 the previous day (Saturday 5 September), by writing to the address casacayega@gmail.com, specifying the number of participants.

The scent of the sea on your plate

Flavio Costa, the chef of the 21.9 restaurant (1 Michelin star) and of the La Via del Sale bistro, offers marine suggestions for lunch at the table with 4 mixed fish starters, tajarin with clams and zucchini in bloom and a portentous catch of steam Catalan. Red fruits with lemon balm ice cream, Roero Arneis Docg Cayega, Langhe Doc Rosato Cereja and Brut Rosé Col dei Ronchi will complete the menu.

The children’s theater

To make the experience of Casa Cayega enjoyable and fun for everyone, Tenuta Carretta invited Giovanna Stella’s “Il Teatrino” to set up a very special stage in the countryside. Shows, animations and themed games will entertain children throughout the day… while the parents will be engaged in tastings.

The anthological exhibition by Rosetta Avalle

This edition of Casa Cayega will see the inauguration, at 6.00 pm, of the anthological exhibition dedicated to the artistic genius of Rosetta Avalle: painter and sculptor who, through her works, has been able to give us a truly unique look at the female universe. The exhibition, set up inside the Tenuta Carretta cellar, traces the different expressive phases of Avalle in the eternal search for the description of the female essence in bodies that were first round, maternal, then angular and austere inspired by the Russian avant-garde of the early 1900s . A tribute to a complete and versatile artist, one year after his death, and to his spiritual legacy: “The voice of a woman in the field of art is rarer, so it must be heard stronger”. To welcome and greet the guests, alpha and omega of the exhibition, will be one of the first works created by the artist, recently placed as a permanent installation to adorn the grassy roof of the cellar, and Vitae, one of the last sculptures by Rosetta Avalle, inaugurated on the occasion of the cellar’s 550 years. The exhibition will remain open for free, upon reservation, until 31 December.

Happy Cayega Hour

While the sunset will caress the Roero hills and the music will spread in the air, the Happy Cayega Hour starts in the internal courtyard of the Estate, the now traditional aperitif in music, in which the Roero Arneis Docg Cayega will meet Flavio Costa’s delicious starred finger food. To all participants a glass of Cayega as a welcome gift.

And when night falls, Smoking Thompson’s rock’n’roll will invite everyone to dance to the songs made famous by Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Bill Haley, Gene Vincent, Little Richard, Carl Perkins , Johnny Burnette, Stray Cats and Johnny Cash.
